Gael’s Charity Cake Book takes family from Tragedy to Great Tasty Bakes!

Bake with love using recipes from this little gem of a cake book and you’ll be raising important funds for charity too.  A little book that has attracted the attention of a couple of big name celebrity chefs, and TV favourite, Chef Aly too.

Gael’s Cake Book is a collection of cake recipes adapted and personalized by Gael Stuart who was a much-loved member of the community in Dingwall, in the Scottish Highlands. Gael was well known locally as a devoted nurse for many years until her health (rheumatoid arthritis) forced her to change career and she opened up a local café.  This was where she became renowned locally for her home baked cakes, that always tasted just a little bit better or a little more indulgent.

Sadly, in her mid-60’s, Gael passed away just before the pandemic, still suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and finally, cancer.  The timing of Gael’s passing meant family, friends and many of her local community, were not able to pay tribute to her nursing work or for her passion of tweaking of cake recipes which she shared and discussed with hundreds of customers over the years.

Gael’s brother Colin Stuart, was determined not to let Gael’s passing go unmarked, so with the help of family and friends, he decided to finish the recipe book that Gael had started, but couldn’t finish.  Gael’s favourite recipes were gathered to create ‘Gael’s Cake Book’, to be sold in aid of the two charities that helped her through her illness;  The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, and the Rheumatology Unit, Dingwall.

This charity cake book is proving popular and has gained approval from TV favourite Chef Aly from Mrs Brown’s Boys.  Chef Aly heard the story from a friend and offered to help Colin to  promote the Cake Book and raise funds in Gael’s memory.  Chef Aly has generously taken time out to produce a video demonstrating how to make Black Forest Gateaux (on page 6) which is a great video for beginners to watch with Chef Aly giving hints and tips along the way.  View the movie here…  (we challenge you to NOT bake a Balck Forest Gateau afterwards!!!)

Colin said ‘I’m really touched by how my friends and business contacts have come together to help me, my family and our friends, pay this tribute to Gael’s life, and her love for sharing and her fun-loving passion for cakes.  I’m looking forward to handing over cheques to the charities in the next couple of months’.

It tastes good to do good, and Gael’s Cake Book is priced at a very affordable £6.50 including P & P, with all proceeds being donated to The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, and the Rheumatology Unit, Dingwall.

The book can be ordered online here:
